About Comitán
Comitán is a highland city in eastern Chiapas, not far from the Guatemalan border, known for clean, sloping streets, cool evenings and a mix of neoclassical, baroque and neo-Gothic buildings. It is the hometown of the writer Rosario Castellanos and of Belisario Domínguez, whose house is now a museum. Most travelers use it as a base for the Montebello lakes, the El Chiflón waterfalls and the Maya site of Tenam Puente, and stay for the local food and the distinctive Comiteco way of speaking.
