Puebloteca takes scattered public information about Mexico's 177 Pueblos Mágicos and turns it into one place that is easy to explore.

What is a Pueblo Mágico?

Pueblos Mágicos ("magic towns") is a program of Mexico's Ministry of Tourism that, since 2001, has recognized towns for their history, architecture, traditions, and natural setting. There are 177 of them, in 31 states.

Where the data comes from

We gather facts from open sources and credit them. Facts are checked by hand where we can, but mistakes are possible.

• List, coordinates, and year named: the official program list, compiled through Wikipedia's list of Pueblos Mágicos.
• Population: Wikidata, mostly from Mexico's 2020 census. Some figures count the whole municipality.
• Elevation and climate: Open-Meteo. Monthly highs, lows, and rainfall are averages for 2020 to 2024.
• Airports: OurAirports. Distances are straight lines to the nearest airport with scheduled flights.
• Drive times and maps: OpenStreetMap, routed with OSRM. Times are estimates without traffic.
• Popularity: average monthly Wikipedia page views over the past year.
• Descriptions and histories: written for Puebloteca, using each town's Wikipedia articles in Spanish and English as references for facts.
