About Ixtenco
Ixtenco is an Otomi farming town in southeastern Tlaxcala, set on an old lava flow at the foot of La Malinche volcano. Life centers on a plaza with the old town well and the parish of San Juan Bautista, whose gray stone bell tower is the tallest in the state. The community has kept customs such as the temazcal, embroidered dress and Carnival dances, and its big day is the feast of Saint John on June 24. Local cooking includes turkey in mole, red pipián and barbacoa.
