About Magdalena de Kino
Magdalena de Kino is a town on the Magdalena River in northern Sonora, about 80 kilometers south of the border at Nogales. Its centerpiece is the Plaza Monumental, framed by arcades of shops and restaurants, where a crypt displays the remains of the Jesuit missionary Eusebio Francisco Kino beside the church of Santa María Magdalena. Pilgrims come to the chapel of San Francisco Javier to try to lift the saint's reclining image. The area is known for quince and other fruit, and the San Ignacio mission is a short drive north.
