Santa Rosalía
Santa Rosalía is a port town on the Gulf of California, built by a French copper company in the 1880s. It looks unlike anywhere else in Baja: wooden houses in French colonial style, old locomotives and mining machinery left around town, and the metal church of Santa Bárbara, attributed to Gustave Eiffel. People stop to see the mining museum, walk the Mesa Francia neighborhood, and buy bread from bakeries that still use stone ovens. A ferry crosses to Guaymas, Sonora.
