Viewpoint 7 km southwest of San Carlos
A clifftop lookout west of San Carlos with sweeping views of Tetakawi, the bays, and the islands; the place to watch sunset.
The Mirador Escénico is a lookout on the cliffs about 6 kilometers west of central San Carlos, and it is where the town's famous postcard view comes from. From the top you see the twin peaks of Cerro Tetakawi, the curving beaches and coves, the islands offshore, and the sharp line where the desert mountains meet the Sea of Cortez.
The lookout as it is today opened in 2018, with a promenade along the edge, parking, restrooms, lighting, and a few small shops, so it is easy to visit with family. It is a favorite spot for photos at any time of day.
The best time to come is sunset, when the sky over the bay turns red and orange, or sometimes soft blue and pink, and the rocks below glow.
