Beach 31 km northwest of Zihuatanejo
A tiny surf hamlet north of Troncones with a long, gentle left point break loved by longboarders and a few palapa restaurants.
La Saladita is a small beach settlement on the coast of La Unión, a few kilometers north of Troncones, and one of the best-known surf spots of the Costa Grande. There is not much of a village: a dirt lane, a string of palapa restaurants, simple bungalows and a handful of surf camps and guesthouses set back from the sand, with coconut groves behind.
The wave is the reason it exists as a destination. A long, mellow left breaks along the point, and on a good day a single ride can last a very long time, which has made La Saladita a favorite of longboarders and a friendly place to improve once you can already stand up. Board rentals and lessons are usually available from the local surf camps, and the lineup is far more relaxed than at heavier breaks along the coast.
Even for non-surfers it is a lovely, quiet place to spend a day: fresh fish under a palapa, a hammock, and long walks on a beach that sees few people. The point picks up swell for much of the year, so there is often something to ride; check a forecast before you go.
What to see and do
Surf the long left point break, ideal for longboards.
Take a lesson or rent a board from one of the surf camps.

Walk the quiet beach and stay for the sunset.
Getting there
La Saladita is about 50 minutes to an hour from Zihuatanejo by car: drive northwest on Highway 200 past Ixtapa and the Troncones turnoff, then take the signed road to La Saladita toward the sea. Buses toward La Unión and Lázaro Cárdenas can drop you at the turnoff, but a taxi or car is much easier. Travel by day.
