About Batopilas
Batopilas is a former silver town at the bottom of one of the Copper Canyon's deep gorges in Chihuahua, a few streets strung along the river between steep canyon walls. Getting there means a long, winding descent from Creel, and the remoteness is part of the appeal. Travelers come for the faded colonial streets, the ruins of mining magnate Alexander Shepherd's mansion, hikes in Rarámuri country, and the old Satevó mission eight kilometers downstream.
