About Mascota
Mascota is a mountain town in the western sierra of Jalisco, a little over 100 km inland from Puerto Vallarta. It sits in a valley ringed by hills of pine and oak where white-tailed deer still live; the old Nahuatl name means "place of deer and snakes." The 18th-century parish church, with a tower clock shipped from Paris in the 1870s, anchors the center. People come for the mild weather, the forested surroundings and the unhurried pace.
