About Tula

Ciudad Tula, founded in 1617, is usually considered the oldest town in Tamaulipas. Its streets keep much architecture from the Porfirio Díaz era, when it was one of the state's leading cities, and it is the home of the cuera, the fringed leather jacket that is Tamaulipas's traditional dress. Nearby are the Tammapul archaeological site with its large pyramid, El Cuizillo, the pilgrimage site of El Contadero, and the lagoon where locals relax.
