Hot springs 6 km west of Teapa
Warm sulfur springs west of Teapa on the road to Pichucalco, with pools, a spa and rooms at Hacienda Los Azufres.
El Azufre is one of the hills that ring Teapa, and at its foot a sulfur spring rises from a deep hole in the ground and runs off as a small stream, the Azufroso. The water is warm, clear and smells strongly of sulfur, and for generations people in the Tabasco sierra have bathed in springs like this one to ease skin problems and rheumatism.
Today the main place to take the waters is Hacienda Los Azufres, a small resort on the highway from Teapa to Pichucalco. Its pools are fed by the spring, with water that stays roughly between 28 and 32 °C, and they sit among the green hills and tropical plants of the area. Besides the pools there are hotel rooms, a spa and a restaurant, so you can come for a day of soaking or stay the night.
It makes an easy half-day trip from Teapa, and it pairs well with the Grutas de Coconá or a swim in the cold, clear water of the Puyacatengo River.
