About Divisadero
Divisadero is a small settlement that grew up around a railway station on the very edge of the Copper Canyon, in the municipality of Urique. The station sits at about 2,330 meters above sea level, at kilometer 621.8 of the old Ojinaga–Topolobampo line, and it opened in 1961 together with the final Creel–San Pedro stretch of the Chihuahua al Pacífico railway. It is a simple place: two tracks, one platform, a waiting room and no ticket office, so anyone boarding here pays on the train.
What makes it famous is the view. A few steps from the platform the ground drops away into the canyons, and the stretch of rim around the station is lined with lookouts, a few hotels built right on the cliff, and an artisan market where Rarámuri families sell baskets and other crafts, next to food stalls run by local families. The Chepe Express stops here in both directions, around 4:15 in the afternoon on the way to Creel and just before 10 in the morning on the way to Los Mochis, and the pause on the platform is long enough for a first look; many travelers get off and spend a night to see the canyon at sunrise and sunset.
Next to the station is the Parque de Aventura Barrancas del Cobre, open every day of the year from 9:00 to 17:00. Its best-known ride is a 3-kilometer cable car trip of about 45 minutes, suitable for all ages. For more adrenaline there is a two-hour circuit of seven zip lines that also includes the cable car, short hikes and suspension bridges; the ZipRider, a single long run that the park bills as one of the longest of its kind in the world; a via ferrata with climbing, rappelling, hanging bridges and a Tarzan swing; and the Bosque Aéreo, a course of 12 suspension bridges with a small zip line. The park's Restaurante Barranco serves Chihuahua-style cooking from a glass-floored dining room over the edge.
