Monclova is the steel city of Coahuila, and the desert Pueblos Mágicos lie about an hour and a half out in three directions. Cuatrociénegas is the big one: an oasis of turquoise pools in the Chihuahuan Desert with species found nowhere else, and gypsum dunes beside it. Candela has a river canyon and hot springs; Múzquiz, to the north, is coal country with a Kickapoo community. Bustamante, over the line in Nuevo León, has caves and a palm-lined canyon.
