Hot springs 47 km north of Ures
Very hot natural springs just north of Aconchi on the Río Sonora route, with simple pools and a camping area.
A few kilometers north of the village of Aconchi, up the Río Sonora valley from Ures, a spring brings water out of the ground hot enough to scald: around 50 to 59 °C at the source. This is El Agua Caliente de Aconchi, a simple, family-run bathing spot that has been drawing people from all over Sonora for generations, many of whom swear by it for sore muscles and joints.
The water feeds several areas. Los Lavaderos is the big family pool; El Cárcamo is a small cave-like spot used for therapeutic soaks; and a third area has two more pools where the water has cooled to a more comfortable temperature. There is parking, bathrooms, showers, grills, and room to camp, but no hotel, so most people come for the day or pitch a tent.
The busy season is the cooler half of the year, from about October to April, and the springs are packed during Holy Week. On the way, stop in Aconchi itself, an old Jesuit mission town founded in 1639 whose 18th-century church of San Pedro y San Pablo stands on the main square.
