Sonora's Pueblos Mágicos are spread thin, but three are within reach of Hermosillo. Ures, an hour and a half east along the Río Sonora, is a former state capital with a shady plaza and old adobe houses. South on the coast, San Carlos has the twin-peaked Tetakawi hill, desert meeting the sea, and the Gulf's clearest diving. North toward the border is Magdalena de Kino, where the Jesuit missionary Eusebio Kino is buried and the October fiesta draws pilgrims from both sides of the line.
