About Cenote Uayma Há
Cenote Uayma Há is a swimming cenote in the countryside of the municipality of Uayma, about 5 km southwest of Uayma village and some 16 km west of Valladolid in a straight line. It is a small, low-key site that is still little known: there are few published descriptions of it, and no official listing with prices or opening hours.
Most visitors arrive on small-group day tours from Valladolid that go to Chichén Itzá first and then stop at two cenotes on the way back: Xcajum, where the group has a regional buffet lunch, and Uayma Há as the final swim. Tour operators describe it as set deeper in the forest than the bigger cenotes and value it for its calm and seclusion. Entrance is paid on the spot, and only in cash, so bring small bills.
It should not be confused with the cenote in Uayma village itself, a few metres from the main square and the former convent of Santo Domingo, built in 1646. That village cenote, about 11 m deep, was cleaned out in a volunteer rescue that pulled some 400 kg of rubbish from the water. The convent church, burned during the Caste War in the 19th century and restored and reopened in 2004, is known for its façade painted with red, white and green motifs and makes a good stop on the same trip.
