    About Hacienda Kaan Ac

    Kaan Ac is a small settlement in the municipality of Valladolid, about 4 km north of the city centre and roughly a ten-minute drive away, built around Hacienda Kaan Ac. The state tourism board dates the hacienda to the 16th century, which would make it one of the older estates in eastern Yucatán, and describes its architecture as unusual for the region.

    Today the hacienda is a hotel and event venue. It has large gardens and terraces, a swimming pool, and its own chapel, used for small religious ceremonies such as baptisms and weddings. Rooms are furnished with antique wooden furniture and canopied beds, and the restaurant, El Filibustero, serves Yucatecan, Mexican and international dishes. According to the state tourism site, the grounds are surrounded by some of the most extensive and best-preserved forest around Valladolid.

    It is a quiet alternative to staying in town while still being close to the colonial centre, the Valladolid cenotes and the road north to Ek Balam. The hacienda says it is open every day of the year and welcomes families, couples and pets.

    The hacienda is about 4 km north of central Valladolid, around ten minutes by car or taxi. From Mérida, drive to Valladolid (about 160 km on the 180D toll road or the free Highway 180) and head north out of town.
