About Cenote Chukum

Cenote Chukum, also called Chukum-Ha, is a cenote on the grounds of Hacienda Chukum, at kilometre 3 of the road from Tikuch to Yalcobá, northeast of Valladolid and about 14 km from the city in a straight line. The site opened to visitors in 2019, run by Aventuras Mayas, an adventure-tourism company founded by Mexican entrepreneurs more than 15 years ago; at the time it was presented in the travel press as a newly discovered cenote and one of the new attractions of the year.

The cenote takes its name from the chukum trees, native to the area, that grow thickly around it. The operator describes it as a 130-foot (about 40 m) cenote, and a 2021 guide puts its diameter at about 40 m and calls the dense vegetation around it one of its main features. The hacienda's site has hosted cliff-diving exhibitions, among them jumps by the Mexican high diver Jonathan Paredes.

Around the cenote the park has adventure activities, an open-air restaurant serving Yucatecan food and a shop selling local crafts and souvenirs. Two passes are sold: a day pass with entry, parking, life jackets and lockers, and a full-day pass that adds the regional buffet. Chukum is on the way between Valladolid and Ek Balam, and some small-group cenote tours from Valladolid combine it with Suytún and Nool Ha.
