About Cenote Agua Dulce

Cenote Agua Dulce is a cave cenote near the village of Yalcobá, in the municipality of Valladolid, about 24 km northeast of the city. It lies only about 350 m from Cenote Palomitas, and Yucatán Today reports that both belong to the same local cooperative, so you can visit one or both on the same trip.

Of the pair, Agua Dulce is the bigger cave: a closed chamber with turquoise to cerulean water and a ceiling crowded with stalactites, with openings in the roof but too little daylight to see by, so it is lit electrically. A spiral staircase leads down to the water, and you can swim, paddle a kayak or simply look from a platform.

The walk from the parking area is a little longer than at Palomitas, which probably explains why it gets even fewer visitors. It is a good choice if you want a big, quiet cavern near Valladolid rather than the busy cenotes on the tour circuit, and it combines easily with Ek Balam, about 20 km from Yalcobá.
