About Cenote Xux Há

Cenote Xux Há (also written Xux Ha or Xux-Ha) is a swimming cenote in the municipality of Valladolid, right beside the free Mérida–Puerto Juárez highway (Highway 180) about 16 km east of Valladolid, near the hamlet of San Antonio. It sees far fewer visitors than the big-name cenotes on the west side of the city, although a few private tours from Valladolid and the Riviera Maya pair it with Suytún, Oxmán or the Ek Balam ruins.

You go down a staircase lined with plants into a large cavern with a wide opening in its roof, which holds a natural pool reported to be about 30 m deep. Guides describe the water in different ways, from emerald green to turquoise to a deep, vivid blue, which mostly depends on the light; Yucatán Today singled out its deep blue tones as a favourite with photographers in 2026. It is a calm place for swimming or simply floating.

Facilities are basic but adequate: changing rooms, toilets and showers, lockers for a small fee, and a rustic restaurant or shop selling drinks and snacks. You cannot bring your own food or alcohol into the cenote area. It is quietest early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
