Landmark 31 km west of Bernal
A 1651 hacienda turned vineyard, restaurant and small hotel, with theatrical tours and an old aqueduct.
Hacienda Atongo is a 17th-century estate in the countryside of El Marqués, between Bernal and the city of Querétaro, that has been turned into a vineyard, restaurant and small hotel. The main buildings date from 1651, during the viceroyalty of New Spain, and the estate is one of the stops of the haciendas and vineyards circuit that El Marqués promotes along the wine route.
About seven hectares are planted with vines. A natural spring crosses the property, and you can still see the old aqueduct that carried its water. Inside, some rooms keep original elements such as period furniture, and the restaurant is named after the year the hacienda was built.
The visits mix history and wine: there are walks through the vineyard and the hacienda, theatrical tours with actors playing characters from the 17th century, cooking workshops and equestrian shows. Each summer it also celebrates the harvest with music, food and grape stomping.
