Landmark 5 km southwest of Bernal
A family winery a few minutes south of Bernal, with tastings in a garden facing the Peña and a grill restaurant.
Donato is a family-run winery just a few kilometers south of Bernal, on the road from the Bernal junction to Ezequiel Montes, and one of the closest vineyards to town. Its main selling point is the setting: the vines run toward the Peña de Bernal, so you taste wine with the great rock filling the horizon.
The project is young by local standards, started by a family who planted red varieties suited to the high, dry plains of the Querétaro semi-desert, among them Syrah, Malbec, Merlot and Tempranillo. The modern buildings house a cellar, a large garden and a restaurant serving regional food and grilled meats, and the estate is also used for weddings and big events.
Visits usually include a walk through the vineyard and cellar with the story of the family and the wines, followed by a tasting, often with food pairings in the garden. During the harvest season it hosts lively vendimia parties with grape stomping and live music.
