Landmark 5 km west of Cadereyta
A ranch-style winery next to Freixenet that mixes wine with horses, with tours, tastings and a lienzo charro.
Viñedos Azteca is a winery with a strong ranch flavor on the highway between Ezequiel Montes and Cadereyta, next door to Freixenet. It was started more than two decades ago by Jorge Ferreira and Miguel Giménez Montesinos, and it combines two passions in one place: wine and horses.
The estate, known as Los Azteca Hacienda Mexicana, was built to look like a country hacienda from the time of the Mexican Revolution, with gardens, terraces, stables and a lienzo charro (a ring for Mexican rodeo). It produces artisanal wines in small quantities, and the guided tours walk you through the vines and the cellar while explaining how each style is made.
The visit ends with a tasting, and the grounds are often used for parties, fairs and charro events, so it has a more festive, family feel than the sleek modern wineries nearby. It makes an easy pairing with Freixenet on the same afternoon.
