Landmark 25 km southwest of Bernal
A goat and dairy farm on the wine route where you meet the animals, see cheese being made and taste it.
Finca VAI is the farm of Quesos VAI, one of the best-known cheese makers on Querétaro's Art, Cheese and Wine Route, and probably the most visited cheese farm in the region. It lies in the countryside on the old free road between Querétaro and Tequisquiapan, between Bernal and Tequisquiapan.
The company traces its roots to the 1920s, when its founder started a dairy at the Hacienda de la Soledad in Mexico City; production later moved to Querétaro. The farm visit is built for families: you walk the grounds, see and pet the goats and cows, learn how they are fed and milked, and follow the cheese from milk to aging room before a tasting.
The shop sells the farm's own cheeses alongside a wide range of Mexican and imported ones, plus bread and wine, so it is a good place to stock up for a picnic. Kids usually love it, and it pairs easily with a winery visit on the same day.
