About Forum Buenavista

Forum Buenavista sits on top of the Buenavista rail yard, at the corner of Avenida Insurgentes Norte and Eje 1 Norte (Mosqueta), in the Buenavista district of Cuauhtémoc. It was built between 2006 and 2009: the ground level is still a train station, with three shopping floors stacked above it and running about 400 metres from south to north. At roughly 37,000 square metres it ranks among the ten biggest malls in the metro area. Visitors come for what is inside rather than for any view: over 150 shops, department stores such as Sears and Coppel, a Soriana hypermarket, Sanborns, a Cinépolis multiplex and a food court.

The ground has a long railway past. President Sebastián Lerdo de Tejada opened the original terminal on 20 January 1873 as the capital's first rail link to Veracruz. It was pulled down in 1960 and a new twelve-track station opened in 1961. Passenger trains stopped leaving in the late 1990s, and from 2003 the site was reworked alongside the Biblioteca Vasconcelos: twelve tracks became four and the terminal was turned over to the Tren Suburbano, running since 2008. Since April 2026 the train to AIFA airport also leaves from here, a ride of about an hour.

The neighbourhood has carried the Buenavista name since the 1870s, when Rafael Martínez de la Torre laid it out; the market named after him lies east of the station. On foot, the Biblioteca Vasconcelos is about 200 m away, and the Tianguis Cultural del Chopo, set up on Saturdays on Calle Aldama, is under 500 m.

How to get to Forum Buenavista

Drive from Mexico City: 10 min, 4 km

Forum Buenavista is one of the easiest places in the city to reach, because every line ends at the same spot. By Metro, the Line B terminus (Buenavista, coming from Ciudad Azteca via Tlatelolco and Guerrero) has a direct exit into the mall; Guerrero (lines 3 and B) and Revolución (line 2) are the nearby stops. By Metrobús, Buenavista station joins line 1 (Indios Verdes to El Caminero, along Insurgentes), line 3 (Tenayuca to Pueblo Santa Cruz Atoyac) and line 4 (San Lázaro and the airport terminals); each line has its own platform, and walking between them takes 2 to 5 minutes. Beside the Metro station is the CETRAM Buenavista bus yard with RTP and other city buses, and the FlixBus ticket window is on the Insurgentes entrance. The Tren Suburbano to Cuautitlán leaves from the ground floor of the mall itself, as does the train to AIFA. By car, the mall fronts Insurgentes Norte and Eje 1 Norte (Mosqueta 259), with parking running along Insurgentes. Crowds are thinner between 10:00 and 15:00.
