Cave 19 km south of Mapimí
Show caves in the desert south of Mapimí with a guided 500-meter route through four levels of stalactites and odd formations.
The Grutas del Rosario are a cave system hidden in a limestone sierra south of Mapimí, a cool escape from the heat of the Bolsón de Mapimí desert. A guided route leads about 500 meters into the hill across four levels, through chambers full of stalactites, stalagmites and columns.
Guides point out the shapes that give the formations their nicknames, from castles and churches to monsters and goblins, and the chambers have scenic lighting that brings out the textures of the rock. There is a small visitor center with basic services at the entrance.
For something more unusual, a zip line has been added inside the cave. It is a good pairing with the Ojuela bridge for a full day out of Mapimí: the bridge in the morning, the cool caves in the heat of the afternoon.

Getting there
From Mapimí, take the road toward El Palmito; after about 2 kilometers, turn off toward Ejido Vicente Suárez, continue about 12 kilometers to the village, then roughly 5 kilometers more to the cave entrance. Allow about half an hour by car. There is an entry fee, guides work for tips, and the zip line costs extra. The caves are open during the day; bring a light jacket for the inside.
