Comitán's natural partner is San Cristóbal de las Casas, an hour and a half north through the Chiapas highlands, with its markets, churches and the Tzotzil villages around it. The rest of the state's Pueblos Mágicos are weekend trips: Chiapa de Corzo, with the Sumidero Canyon boats and its January Parachicos fiesta; the Maya ruins of Palenque down in the rainforest; and the river towns of Tapijulapa and Teapa over the line in Tabasco.
Best months for the area: Jan, Feb, Mar, Dec (when most of these towns are dry with comfortable afternoons)
