    About Dieciocho de Marzo

    Dieciocho de Marzo is a community in the municipality of Puebla, south of the city, about 9 km in a straight line from the historic centre, next to Santo Tomás Chautla and north-west of the Valsequillo reservoir. From above, its houses sit on the edge of the urban sprawl, among new streets and fields.

    Its name recalls 18 March 1938, the day President Lázaro Cárdenas decreed the oil expropriation, which took foreign oil companies' assets into national hands and gave rise to Pemex. The date is a public holiday in Mexico, and many villages and neighbourhoods founded in the following decades bear the name.

    Its neighbour Santo Tomás Chautla belonged to the old municipality of Totimehuacán, which was abolished and merged into Puebla in 1962; today this whole area is practically joined to the capital. The area's main road is the Puebla–Tecali de Herrera highway, known as Boulevard Capitán Carlos Camacho Espíritu, which runs through Santo Tomás Chautla toward the south-east.
