Los Ángeles Tetela

Though it belongs to the state capital's municipality, Los Ángeles Tetela feels far from the city: it lies at the southern end of the municipal territory, across the Valsequillo reservoir on its southern shore, at 2,108 m. In 2010 it had 2,247 residents, 1,149 women and 1,088 men, and the federal encyclopedia of municipalities lists it as an inspectoría that lives mainly from farming, about 15 km from central Puebla.

Water shapes the landscape. The Manuel Ávila Camacho dam, known to everyone as Valsequillo, was built where the Atoyac river cut a narrow canyon, the Balcón del Diablo, in the depression at the foot of the Sierra del Tentzo. It holds 405 million cubic metres and irrigates a district of 21,864 hectares. South of the village the Tentzo hills begin.

The main road links it west to San Andrés Azumiatla and Santa Clara Ocoyucan, and east to the Puebla-Tecali de Herrera highway. Close by, on the north side of the reservoir, are San Baltazar Tetela and Buena Vista Tetela, other communities of Puebla municipality sharing the same place name.
