    About Lomas de Angelópolis

    Lomas de Angelópolis is not an old village but a planned development: INEGI records its founding on 27 June 2013 and lists it as a locality of the municipality of Ocoyucan, with 10,951 residents in 2020 at 2,078 metres above sea level. The municipal seat, Santa Clara Ocoyucan, is by contrast a village of Nahua origin close to the old lordship of Cholula.

    The development belongs to the cluster known as Angelópolis, the business, housing and shopping district that spreads over about 15 km² between the municipalities of Puebla, San Andrés Cholula and Ocoyucan, around the Vía Atlixcáyotl. Inside Lomas there is a commercial centre with offices, restaurants, shops, cinemas and a casino, which Wikipedia calls "a city within the city".

    For the municipality's traditions you have to go to other towns: the fair on 12 August in the seat, or the baile de los tonchis on 1 November. Local cooking in the area features mole poblano, pipián and tamales, with chocolate, atole and cider to drink.

    How to get to Lomas de Angelópolis

    Drive from Puebla: 25 min, 18 km

    Lomas de Angelópolis is in the municipality of Ocoyucan, inside the Angelópolis zone, and is reached from Puebla by the Vía Atlixcáyotl, that zone's main axis. From central Puebla it is about 13 km in a straight line and roughly 15 to 25 minutes by car depending on traffic; from Cholula, approx. 11 km and 15 minutes. Several city routes reach the Angelópolis shopping centre in the north of the zone (29, Azteca, 33, 14A and others), but no fixed route to Lomas itself is published: the practical way is to get off there and continue by taxi. For long-distance buses the terminal is CAPU, in Puebla.
