About San Luis Tehuiloyocan
San Luis Tehuiloyocan is a junta auxiliar of the municipality of San Andrés Cholula, in the Puebla valley, about 5 km west of the municipal seat. Its name means "land of beautiful stone". It stands at about 2,150 m and had 5,733 people in 2020. It has three neighbourhoods: Santo Ecce Homo, Jesús and Santo Entierro.
The climate is mild and sub-humid, with rain from May to October. December is the coldest month, at 9 to 13 °C, and May the hottest, reaching 28 to 32 °C. People grow maize, beans and vegetables, and raise poultry, pigs and cows.
The festival calendar is full. The patron-saint feast is on 19 August, for Saint Louis of Toulouse. Each neighbourhood has its own fiesta: Santo Entierro on 1 July, Santo Ecce Homo on the third Sunday of July and Jesús on 6 August. And 11 August is one of the most important days of the year: the Virgin of Los Remedios, the one atop Cholula's great pyramid, visits the village. From early morning, church officials, the apostles and villagers go to her sanctuary to escort her on the road to San Luis, and when she reaches the village entrance a mass gives thanks for another year of her visit.
