    About Barrio de Nuevo León

    Barrio de Nuevo León is a community in the municipality of Cuautlancingo, in the Puebla metropolitan area, about 4 km in a straight line from Cholula and about 10 km from downtown Puebla. It stands at about 2,180 m and had 2,999 people in 2020.

    The municipality of Cuautlancingo, "in the little wood", covers about 33 km² and is part of the Puebla-Tlaxcala metropolitan area; most people work in industry. Its seat, San Juan Cuautlancingo, existed centuries before the Conquest, as the Codex of Cuautlancingo shows, and in 1589 received a coat of arms for the help its chiefs gave the Spaniards. In colonial times it was a república de indios, and in 1895 it became a free municipality. Its territory also includes San Lorenzo Almecatla, scene of the battle of 8 May 1863.

    The municipality borders Tlaxcala to the north, Puebla to the east, San Pedro Cholula to the south and Coronango to the west. From above, the neighbourhood sits among the housing estates and fields between Cuautlancingo and Cholula, in the upper Atoyac basin.
