Nature reserve 23 km southeast of Cholula
A drive-through wildlife park south of Puebla where giraffes, rhinos and zebras roam large open enclosures.
Africam Safari is a large wildlife park in the Valsequillo area, south of the city of Puebla, and one of the most visited family attractions in central Mexico. It opened in 1972, created by Carlos Camacho Espíritu, a pilot, radio host and businessman who kept a private collection of animals on his land and wanted a place where they could live and breed in conditions closer to the wild. The name joins Africa and Camacho.
Instead of cages, the park is laid out as a safari: you drive through open sections, in your own car or on the park's buses, while animals roam around you. Depending on the section you see giraffes, zebras, rhinos, elephants, antelopes and big cats, and the park houses thousands of animals from several hundred species, grouped by region of the world. After the drive, a walking area has more exhibits, shows and places to eat.
The park also takes part in conservation and breeding programs. It is a full-day outing, and especially good with children.
