Españita

Españita is the seat of the municipality of the same name, in western Tlaxcala, at an altitude of roughly 2,600 m. According to Wikipedia the town was founded on 26 May 1672 under the name Santa María de la Nueva España, and the municipality's earlier Nahuatl name is Atzatzacuala, "place of dams". It became the municipal seat on 8 June 1857. At the 2020 census the town had 3,119 people, nearly double its 1990 count, and the whole municipality had 9,416 in 22 localities; after the seat, the largest are La Magdalena Cuextotitla (1,079) and San Francisco Mitepec (934).

The municipality borders Sanctórum de Lázaro Cárdenas, Nanacamilpa, Hueyotlipan, Ixtacuixtla and, to the southwest, Tlahuapan, already in Puebla. In the middle of town is the parish church of Nuestra Señora de Loreto, the easiest thing to visit. Outside the seat, Wikipedia names the Tepalca lake and the hacienda of San Miguel Tepalca as attractions, and describes the municipality as part of the Calpulalpan tourist route, with haciendas, natural sites, colonial buildings and a few balnearios.

It is more a stop on a route than a multi-day destination: the usual way to see it is as part of a trip linking the haciendas and towns of western Tlaxcala..
