About San Isidro Buen Suceso

San Isidro Buen Suceso (also spelled Buensuceso) is a town in the municipality of San Pablo del Monte, on La Malinche's southern slope, at about 2,600 m and about 7 km from the municipal seat, Villa Vicente Guerrero. Its people are Nahua and Nahuatl is still the first language of many residents; English Wikipedia calls it the most remote Nahuatl-speaking town in Tlaxcala. The 2010 census counted 8,769 people, and the Enciclopedia de los Municipios lists it as the municipality's main rural locality, living from farming.

It is a young town. The version recorded on Wikipedia (flagged as needing a citation) says it was founded around 1890 by about 22 families from San Miguel Canoa, Puebla, who bought land from the former San Isidro hacienda. Growth was fast: from 386 people in 1910 to over 4,000 in 1990. It now has barrios and a parish dedicated to San Isidro Labrador, whose feast is held on 15 May.

The most deeply rooted custom is All Saints. On 28 October, the day for those who died in accidents, families set an offering on the altar of the house where the person lived, pray a rosary with litany and decorate graves and the places of death with marigolds. On 2 November, after midday, once the bells stop and the souls are believed to have left, offerings are exchanged: a basket of fruit, bread and mole taken to the homes of godparents or grandparents. Local literature also documents the community's temazcales and its knowledge of mushrooms.
