    About Sihó

    Sihó, also known as San Antonio Sihó, is a village in the municipality of Halachó in far western Yucatán, about 8.5 km west of the town of Halachó as the crow flies and a short way from the border with Campeche. It had 1,735 inhabitants in the 2020 census, which makes it the fourth-largest settlement in the municipality after Halachó, Cepeda and Cuch Holoch. The name is Maya; Spanish-language Wikipedia renders it as "offering of five".

    The village has grown steadily over the last century: the census counted 270 people in 1900, around 550 between the 1920s and 1950s, 1,313 in 2000 and 1,735 in 2020. Its official name has changed back and forth: it was registered as San Antonio Sihó from 1910 and went back to plain Sihó in 1970 and again in 1995.

    There are Maya remains at Sihó. The Yucatán state government lists the ruins of Sihó among the archaeological monuments of the municipality of Halachó, but there is no visitor infrastructure, opening hours or ticket booth, so this is a place to see everyday life in a western Yucatán village rather than a tourist stop. The nearest town with shops, a market and buses is Halachó, on Federal Highway 180 between Mérida and Campeche.

    Drive from Mérida: 1 h 20 min, 88 km

    From Mérida take Federal Highway 180 toward Campeche through Umán and Maxcanú to Halachó, about 67.5 km from the southern Periférico (roughly an hour). From Halachó a local road runs west to Sihó, about 8.5 km in a straight line.
