Beach 28 km north of Motul
The nearest beach to Motul: a quiet fishing port on the Gulf with calm, shallow water and seafood on the waterfront.
Telchac Puerto is the closest beach to Motul, about 30 kilometers to the north at the end of the road through Telchac Pueblo. It is a small fishing port of around 2,000 people on the Gulf of Mexico, with white sand, calm and shallow water and the relaxed feel of the Yucatán coast outside the summer holidays, when families from Mérida and the interior fill the beach houses.
The little waterfront and the lighthouse give it the air of an old port, and the harbor master's office is said to keep part of the original customs building. Early in the morning you can watch the boats come in with the day's catch, which ends up in the simple restaurants by the dock: fried fish, octopus and seafood cocktails at fair prices.
Behind the town, the lagoons and salt flats attract flocks of flamingos and many migratory birds, and the Maya port of Xcambó is a few kilometers to the west. Telchac makes an easy day at the beach from Motul or a quiet base for exploring this stretch of coast.
