About Estadio GNP Seguros

Estadio GNP Seguros, for decades known as Foro Sol, is the mass-event venue of the Magdalena Mixhuca sports city in Iztacalco, set inside the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. It began in November 1993 as a concert ground with temporary stands on a bend of the racetrack, and Madonna played the first show. On 23 October 1997 it opened as Foro Sol with a David Bowie concert, named after the beer brand that sponsored it. It closed in 2024 for a renovation and reopened in August under its new sponsor's name.

For concerts it holds up to 65,000 people, making it the city's second-largest venue after Estadio Azteca. The Vive Latino festival has been held here every year since 1998, and U2, Metallica, Coldplay, Shakira, Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny have played; Coldplay drew close to 260,000 people over its 2022 dates. It was also a baseball park: the Diablos Rojos del México played here from 2000 to 2014, and it hosted three MLB exhibition games (2001, 2003, 2004) and Pool B of the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

An inner layout links the stadium with the racetrack, which is why it is part of the Mexican Grand Prix circuit since 2015 and of Formula E since 2016. This is not a place to drop in on any day: people come for a concert, a festival or a race, so check the schedule and plan the arrival well ahead.

How to get to Estadio GNP Seguros

Drive from Mexico City: 15 min, 10 km

By Metro, Line 9 (brown) is the best choice: Ciudad Deportiva station is about 10 minutes on foot and lets out at Gate 6; Puebla is a 15 to 18 minute walk and Velódromo needs crossing footbridges over Viaducto and Circuito Interior. Pantitlán connects Lines 1, 5, 9 and A. Trolleybus Line 2 (Pantitlán-Chapultepec) has stops near Gate 8 and the Puebla and Ciudad Deportiva Metro stations. By Metrobús, Line 2 (purple) drops you at Iztacalco or Goma, then a 20 to 35 minute walk.

By car, Viaducto Río de la Piedad reaches the north gates (6, 7 and 8), Eje 3 Sur Añil the south one (Gate 15), and Circuito Interior-Río Churubusco the west side; a footbridge links the Palacio de los Deportes with the stadium. Traffic builds from 6 pm, especially on weekends and event days; you can enter up to four hours before an event and parking, paid in cash at the gate, fills early. Taxis and ride-hailing apps surge with demand, and after an event the walk to the Metro takes 15 to 30 minutes. Check the Metro's closing time before you go.
