About Estadio Centenario

Estadio Centenario stands in the north of Cuernavaca, on Avenida Universidad in the Lienzo Charro neighbourhood, inside the Unidad Deportiva Centenario. It was built between 1967 and 1969 for state Olympic events and football and opened in 1969, with a renovation in April 2009. It has a grass pitch ringed by a red athletics track, visible in photos.

Capacity is reported differently: 14,800 according to Infobae and Spanish Wikipedia (which gives 14,500 in another section), and 9,670 on English Wikipedia. It is the third-largest stadium in Morelos, behind the Coruco Díaz and the Mariano Matamoros. The complex also has a frontón court, five multipurpose courts, a gymnasium-auditorium and a sports medicine centre.

It has hosted several teams. In 2006 Pumas Morelos, a UNAM farm club, adopted it in the Liga de Ascenso; later tenants were Zacatepec (2013-2014), Ballenas Galeana Morelos, Athletic Morelos (2014-2017), Halcones de Morelos (2017-2018) and Escorpiones (2021-2023). Since January 2026 it has been the home of Cruz Azul Femenil in Liga MX Femenil: the club debuted there on 10 January against Chivas in a 0-0 draw with a crowd near 10,000. The move was first announced for six months, so check with the club whether it still stands.

It is also the finish line of the Rover Scout México-Cuernavaca marathon, which Spanish Wikipedia calls the oldest in Mexico.

How to get to Estadio Centenario

Drive from Cuernavaca: 10 min, 7 km

The stadium is on Avenida Universidad s/n, colonia Lienzo Charro (Chamilpa), in northern Cuernavaca. From the centre it is about 7 km and roughly 10 minutes by car (OpenStreetMap routing): Avenida Morelos north, Avenida Emiliano Zapata (México 95), then Avenida Universidad. From Mexico City, the México-Cuernavaca autopista (México 95D) arrives on the north side, so you need not cross the whole city; leave early on weekends because of traffic.

By public transport, a TV Azteca Morelos article says that from Jiutepec or Cuernavaca route 13 (toward the Universidad or Chamilpa) stops almost at the gate; from the centre routes 1, 13 and Aliados de Morelos run from Avenida Morelos and the López Mateos market, for about 10 to 13 pesos. A taxi or ride-hail costs roughly 70 to 150 pesos depending on the zone, and about 50 pesos from Paloma de la Paz. Fares are approximate.

From Mexico City, take a bus to Cuernavaca from the Terminal Sur (Taxqueña), then a taxi or route 13. Tepoztlán, the nearest pueblo on the list, is about 16 km away in a straight line. Confirm fixtures and tickets with the club's accounts.
