Waterfall 3 km southwest of Valle de Bravo
A 35-meter waterfall in the pine forest of Avándaro, with picnic areas, trails and horseback rides close to Valle de Bravo.
Velo de Novia, the Bride's Veil, is the waterfall everyone in Valle de Bravo points you to. About 5 km from the center, in the wooded hills of Avándaro, a stream drops roughly 35 meters down a rock face in a thin white sheet that really does look like a veil blowing in the wind, then runs on through the pines.
The falls sit inside a small ecological park that makes an easy outing. Trails lead through the forest to viewpoints and down toward the base, and around them there are tables and grills for a picnic, food stands and craft stalls. Horse rides are one of the classic ways to arrive: local guides lead groups along forest paths from Avándaro to the falls.
Like most waterfalls in the region, it changes with the seasons. From June to October the rains swell it into a loud, full curtain, while in the dry months it thins to a delicate thread, still pretty but much quieter. Mornings on weekdays are the calmest time to visit; on weekends and holidays the park fills with families from Toluca and Mexico City.
