About Rincón de López
Rincón de López is a farming and cattle village in Armería municipality, 14 km from the municipal seat and about 121 m above sea level, on the coastal plain between Armería and Tecomán. It had 2,615 residents in 2020, up from 790 in 1970, with a peak of 2,881 in 2000.
Life centres on the main square and the church of San Isidro, the patron saint of farmers, whose fiesta the village celebrates in May with local traditions. The former Rincón de López hacienda is also still part of the village.
The economy is the land, and above all limes: many people head out to pick limes in the orchards toward Banco de Jicotán. The river shapes the place. It rises every rainy season, and in September 2019 Tropical Storm Lorena flooded the low-lying lagoon side, sent families to shelter in the school and the ejido hall, and destroyed one of the two bridges linking Rincón de López and Banco de Jicotán to the Armería road.
There is no tourist infrastructure here. It is a working village, and a straightforward look at everyday life in Colima's lime country.
How to get to Rincón de López
Rincón de López is 30 min from Tecomán, 25 km by road, and 14 km from the town of Armería. You reach it on a side road off the Armería highway that crosses the river; there are two bridged accesses, shared with Banco de Jicotán, and heavy rain can damage them. From Comala, the nearest pueblo mágico, it is 65 min and 45 km by road.
We found no reliable information on public transport to the village; the practical way in is by car or taxi from Armería or Tecomán.
