Mezcalitos

Mezcalitos is a small community in the municipality of Bahía de Banderas, Nayarit, on the flat coastal plain, only about 6 meters above sea level. It lies along Boulevard Nuevo Vallarta, the road that links Highway 200 with the resort zone, about 2 kilometers from Nuevo Vallarta, with the much bigger town of Mezcales a little under 2 kilometers to the west and Valle Dorado less than a kilometer to the south.

It is a place that has grown with the hotels next door. The census counted 687 people in 2005, 836 in 2010 and 1,064 in 2020, in a little over 300 homes. About three in four residents were born outside Nayarit, and more than half of those over 12 have jobs.

There are no sights here as such, but it is a handy, unpretentious stop on the way to or from Nuevo Vallarta. Along the boulevard are seafood and taco places such as El Coleguita Mariscos and Tacos Al Pastor Sonorita, a breakfast spot and evening cenadurías, and Valle Dorado next door has a main square, shops and a supermarket. The beaches of Nuevo Vallarta and Flamingos are a few minutes away by car.
