    About Aquaventuras Park

    Aquaventuras Park is a family water park on the Tepic highway (Highway 200) at kilometre 155, by the first entrance to Nuevo Vallarta in the municipality of Bahía de Banderas, about ten minutes by car from Puerto Vallarta's airport. You can see its tangle of coloured slides from the road. It is part of the same group as Dolphin Discovery, which keeps a dolphin and sea lion habitat inside the park, so a visit can be a simple day of slides and pools or be built around a swim with dolphins.

    The slides have names that locals know well: Rompe Dientes (the tooth-breaker), El Pulpo, where friends race each other on rubber rings, and La Viuda Feliz, one of the tallest. There is a 160 m lazy river for floating along, a children's water play area with a paddling pool only 13 to 30 cm deep, a zip line and hanging rope bridges for those who want something drier, plus snack bars selling pizza, burgers, wings, hot dogs and salads. Rubber rings and lockers are included in the ticket.

    The dolphin programmes range from a shallow-water encounter to longer swims, and anyone who books one gets into the water park free. The park is an easy day off the beach for families staying in Nuevo Vallarta and Puerto Vallarta, and many hotels and agencies sell tickets with transport. One practical oddity: although it is in Nayarit, the park runs on Jalisco time, one hour ahead, so check the clock before you set out.

    How to get to Aquaventuras Park

    Drive from Puerto Vallarta: 15 min, 15 km

    The park is at km 155 of Highway 200 (Carretera a Tepic), at the entrance to Nuevo Vallarta, about 10 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta's airport; look for the slides from the road. A taxi from the airport rank costs about 200 pesos a trip (yellow taxis can be cheaper), and the cruise pier is about 15 minutes away by taxi. The ATM buses between Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta run along Highway 200 past the park.
