Tondoroque

Tondoroque, also written El Tondoroque, is a small community in the municipality of Bahía de Banderas, Nayarit, on the flat coastal strip about 8 meters above sea level. It sits on Federal Highway 200, the road from Puerto Vallarta to Tepic, between the large town of Mezcales a couple of kilometers to the southeast and Bucerías to the northwest. Right beside it are the Flamingos golf course and the gated Flamingos residential area, and beyond them the hotels on the north end of Nuevo Vallarta's beach.

Like its neighbors it has grown with the tourist corridor. The census counted 413 people in 2005, 651 in 2010 and 831 in 2020, in about 230 homes. Two in three residents were born outside Nayarit, and the share of working-age adults has risen sharply, as has the number of people over 60.

There is nothing to tour here, and that is the honest point of a stop: it is an ordinary roadside community where you can eat simply, at Restaurante Rosita, a few cenadurías, carnitas and birria stands and a lonchería, before heading on. The beaches of Nuevo Vallarta and Bucerías are minutes away by car, and the bigger shopping and restaurant streets of Mezcales and Bucerías are just down the highway.
