Cave 6 km north of Pinal de Amoles
A guided hike up the Escanela River through a narrow canyon to a cave where water pours into a turquoise pool.
Puente de Dios (God's Bridge) is the best-known natural sight around Pinal de Amoles: a cave on the Escanela River, inside the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve, where water filters through the ceiling and drips from stalactites into clear, turquoise pools.
Getting there is half the fun. The trail follows the river upstream, over stone steps, through the riverbed itself and into La Angostura, a narrow canyon where the walls close in and the water runs between huge boulders and tree roots. The walk is short, about 2 kilometers, but you will scramble a little and get your feet wet.
Visits are made with registered local guides who lead small groups along the route, which protects both the river and the visitors. Swimming is not allowed along the way, only in designated pools at the end, and the water is cold all year. There are camping areas and cabins near the site if you want to stay overnight.
