Town 11 km southwest of Yuriria
One of Mexico's clothing capitals, with a kilometers-long tianguis selling garments at factory prices.
Moroleón, just south of Yuriria and joined at the hip with neighboring Uriangato, is one of Mexico's great clothing towns. Its textile and garment workshops, many of them small family businesses, have made it a magnet for shoppers who come by the busload to buy sweaters, dresses, jeans, T-shirts, school uniforms and more at factory prices.
The heart of the action is the huge tianguis, an open-air market that stretches for kilometers along the highway on the edge of town, plus the shops and commercial plazas around the center. The market starts in the dark early hours, when wholesale buyers arrive to fill their bags, and winds down in the afternoon. Prices are low, and buying several pieces often gets you a better deal.
Beyond shopping, the center of Moroleón has a pleasant main square with the parish church of San Juan Bautista, and street stands serving the food of southern Guanajuato. It is an easy half-day from Yuriria, especially combined with Uriangato.
