    About Playa del Divorcio

    Playa del Divorcio, or Divorce Beach, is the Pacific-facing side of the narrow strip of sand that cuts through the granite ridge of Land's End, near El Arco at the tip of Cabo San Lucas, in the municipality of Los Cabos. Its partner on the Sea of Cortez side is Playa del Amor; the two names make the joke, the calm bay on one side and the rough open ocean on the other. It is a broader, wilder beach of golden sand between high rock walls, with the full Pacific swell breaking straight onto it.

    There is no road or path. Visitors arrive by water taxi at Playa del Amor and walk a couple of minutes across the sand to the Pacific side. The beach is good for sitting, walking and photographs of the surf and the rocks, but not for going in the water: the shore break is powerful, rip currents can pull people out quickly, there are no lifeguards, and people have drowned here. Local authorities and boat operators say swimming is prohibited, and it is best to keep well back from the water's edge, since large waves can surge up the sand with little warning.

    The beach lies inside the Cabo San Lucas Flora and Fauna Protection Area. There is no shade, food or water, so bring what you need and carry it back out. Landings at Playa del Amor are suspended when the sea is rough, which also closes the way to this side; check conditions with the boatmen at the marina before going.

    How to get to Playa del Divorcio

    Drive from San José del Cabo to Marina de Cabo San Lucas: 30 min, 32 km

    Playa del Divorcio can only be reached by boat. Take a water taxi from the Cabo San Lucas marina or Médano Beach to Playa del Amor, where most water taxis stop, then walk a couple of minutes across the sand to the Pacific side. Agree on a pickup time with the boatman before you are dropped off.
