About Jorobas

Jorobas is a locality in the west of Huehuetoca municipality, at about 2,268 m, right beside the México-Querétaro toll road (57D): Wikimedia Commons holds photos of the highway taken from the village. It is small but growing fast: the census counted 527 people in 1980, 1,159 in 2000, 2,439 in 2010 and 2,983 in 2020, part of the housing pressure across the whole municipality, which went from 100,023 to 163,244 residents between 2010 and 2020.

We found no sources for a church, square or festival of Jorobas's own, and would rather not invent any. What it does have is its position: about 5 km west of Huehuetoca's centre in a straight line and about 12 km from Tepotzotlán, which makes it a handy pass-through for two stronger visits. Huehuetoca has the Tajo de Nochistongo, the great open cut of the colonial drainage works of the Valley of Mexico, 16 km long and up to 80 m deep, along with the Franciscan church of San Pablo and the Casa del Virrey Luis de Velasco. Tepotzotlán has its own historic centre.

If you pass through, treat Jorobas as a place to see from the road or to park and keep going, not as a destination with tourist services.

How to get to Jorobas

Drive from Mexico City: 50 min, 52 km

By car from Mexico City it is about 45 km and roughly 45 to 50 minutes without traffic, north on the México-Querétaro toll road (57D); the road runs right past Jorobas, so take the nearest exit and confirm on a map which one, as they change. Tepotzotlán, the nearest pueblo, is about 12 km away in a straight line (roughly 15 minutes).

By public transport the usual way is to reach Huehuetoca or Tepotzotlán and continue by taxi or combi. According to Rome2rio, a bus leaves the Terminal Central del Norte for Tepotzotlán about every 20 minutes (Coordinados and other lines), or you can ride the Tren Suburbano from Buenavista to Cuautitlán and take a taxi toward Huehuetoca (about 27 minutes). We found no direct service to Jorobas.

Visiting Jorobas: what to see and do

Look at the México-Querétaro toll road (57D) from the village, a well-photographed stretch of this northern route.
Continue about 5 km east to Huehuetoca's centre: San Pablo parish church and the Casa del Virrey Luis de Velasco.
Look for the Tajo de Nochistongo, the open cut of the colonial drainage works, between Huehuetoca and the Hidalgo border; ask at the municipality about access first.
Use the nearness of Tepotzotlán, about 12 km away in a straight line, to add its historic centre.
