About Litibú

Litibú is a long, gently curving bay on the north side of the Punta de Mita peninsula, facing the open Pacific rather than Banderas Bay. Its sand runs for more than two kilometers, framed by a wooded headland, and the village of Higuera Blanca lies about two kilometers inland. The name also belongs to a tiny settlement behind the beach, which had only a few dozen residents at the 2020 census.

It is one of the newer resort areas of the Riviera Nayarit. The Litibú golf course, designed by Greg Norman, opened on March 7, 2010: 18 holes, par 72 and about 7,000 yards, with seven links-style holes, eight cut through the jungle and the last three running along the ocean with views of Punta de Mita. Large resorts have followed, among them the Iberostar Selection Playa Mita on the beach and the Conrad Punta de Mita about a kilometer away, along with villas and residential developments on the hills.

The beach itself is wide and sandy, with views across the water to the dark headlands at either end, and vendors walk it selling hats, jewelry and souvenirs. It makes an easy half-day from Higuera Blanca, the nearest village, two kilometers inland, or from Sayulita, less than 20 minutes away by car.
