Hacienda de Letras

Hacienda de Letras is a winery in the village of San Luis de Letras, in the municipality of Pabellón de Arteaga, set in an old hacienda from the 19th century. It is one of the stops on the Aguascalientes wine route, a reminder that this state grew grapes on a large scale long before Mexican wine became fashionable.

Winemaking here dates to 1978, when a company called Vitivinícola Dinastía started on the property; it took the name Viñedos y Bodegas Hacienda de Letras in 1996. It is a small producer of signature wines from its own vineyards, and the old hacienda buildings give the visit as much character as the wine.

Guided tours walk you through the vines, explain the grape varieties and the growing season, and show how the wine is made, ending with a glass to taste. There is also a longer tasting, a restaurant, picnics among the vines and events through the year, especially around the grape harvest in late summer.
